We hear the word gratitude every 10 seconds in today's world.

Social media has no shortage of influencers touting the importance of being grateful and how it will help you accomplish your goals.

And while gratitude is extremely important, a lot of people don't use the tool of gratitude to it's full capacity.

It can be easy to get caught up in thinking the same things over and over again...

"I'm grateful for my kids."

"I'm grateful for the roof over my head."

"I'm grateful I have food in my fridge."

Don't get me wrong... these things are important... but they won't motivate you to push yourself in the way the influencers that push the idea of gratitude intended.

Practicing gratitude requires contemplation.

Take your time and don't rush through it.

Think about how what you have can help get you to where you want to go and be grateful for it.

For example...

1) You probably have legs.

Have you ever stopped and recognized how fortunate you are that you have a working pair of legs.

You have the ability to get up and go for a walk.

It's easy for you to get out of bed in the middle of the night when you need to go to the bathroom.

With your legs you can also get up, go to the gym, and work out.

Are you grateful for that?

If you are truly grateful for the fact that you have legs, why do you spend so much time sitting on the couch watching Netflix?

True gratitude would cause you to appreciate the fact that you have legs and use them to the fullest...

Because not everybody is so fortunate.

2) If you are reading this, chances are you have access to tens, if not hundreds, of experts who are able to help you get in shape with their guidance.

There are people all over the world who do not have access to professionals that would kill to. They have serious health issues but don't know what to do because they hear a million different things from a million different people.

3) How about the fact that you have access to an abundance of healthy food?

You are able to pick up nutritious produce, whole grains, and lean proteins on demand and you don't?

There are food deserts in the city where people genuinely don't have access to healthy foods... they have to rely on processed food for sustenance. And in a lot of these communities you'll find higher rates of diabetes, hypertension, and stroke. But it's not out of choice. It's because they literally do not have access to healthier alternatives.

So in a sense, being healthy is practicing gratitude.

Getting in shape is a privilege that not everyone has the ability to take advantage of and there are plenty of people who would love the opportunity to switch places with you.

It can be easy to toss our health aside when life gets hectic, but this is disrespectful to all of those people who can't choose to toss their health aside... because they have no choice... they are forced to.

My hope is that you take time... 10,15,20 minutes... however long you need...

And just think...

Think about the incredible situation you are in and how you have so many advantages.

You have so many reasons to be grateful, just make sure that you recognize them.

Because...
