We all struggle with motivation from time to time.

Even the fittest people on Earth experience speed bumps on the road to six packs. And because it's unrealistic for you to be highly motivated 24/7, it can help to know how to get yourself back on track...

Personally, when I begin to feel my motivation slip... I look up quotes from different people to help me stay on track.

Below are 3 quotes that I've used time and time again to stay motivated, maybe they can help you too.

1) "When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you'll be successful."

-Eric Thomas

Among the ranks of Les Brown and Tony Robbins, Eric Thomas is one of the newer motivational speakers who has managed to climb the ranks quickly with his unique perspective and unorthodox style of motivating. He calls himself the Hip-Hop Preacher because he brings a raw grittiness to his speeches and a level of realness that I'm a huge fan of.

This quote in particular comes from one of his most popular speeches where he is talking about what it takes to truly succeed. He says most people don't want it as badly as they claim, and this is why most people don't achieve it. He then goes on to use almost suffocating to prove his point. We've all been underwater trying to hold our breath as long as we could, or exercised so hard we could barely catch our breath... in those moments nothing else matters but trying to fill our lungs with as much air as possible. We aren't thinking about what clothes we're going to wear tomorrow, or what we're going to watch on TV later that night. All we care about is getting our breath back. He then goes on to explain that this is how badly you must want to succeed if you truly want to reach your goals. It has to consume you and be at the forefront of your mind.

I've listened to this speech hundreds if not thousands of times and it never gets old... you can check it out on Youtube HERE>>

2) "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the things you did, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails."

-Mark Twain

Does this guy really need an introduction? A timeless author whose wit-wrapped life lessons provide ever-relevant knowledge in a neat, easily consumed package, Mark Twain had a way of taking the hardships of life and twisting them into something interesting and light-hearted.

I love this quote in particular because it captures the essence of so many people who are trying to lose weight. So many of us procrastinate... we'll start tomorrow or in January or now just isn't the right time. But just like Twain says in the above quotes... the time is going to pass anyway... So doesn't it make more sense to start now. If you start now, in 6 months you will have made 6 months of progress. If you don't start now, in 6 months you'll be looking back and wishing that you did. Action creates change... procrastination does nothing.

3) "A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty."

-Winston Churchill

Another man who needs no introduction, and widely regarded as one of the greatest leaders and orators of modern times, Winston Churchill had a way of inspiring during his time, and still inspires to this day.

This quotes really addresses the mindset you have to have when undertaking your fitness journey. There will be difficult times. There will be times where you do everything right and gain weight. There will be weak moments where you eat an extra slice of pizza. It's okay. In these situations, the pessimist views themselves as a failure who is unable to accomplish what they want. The optimist views this as an opportunity to see why it is that they deviated from their goal. It's a teachable moment that, with reflection, can reveal the necessary things that will prevent you from making the same mistake twice. But you can't figure those things out if you have a pessimistic mindset.

It's safe to say that Eric Thomas, Mark Twin, and Winston Churchill know a thing or two about success. They also have a way of capturing the essence of what it takes to accomplish certain goals.

These quotes have helped me on my journey from playing college football to competing in powerlifting to starting and running a successful business by 28. If you can manage to capture just a fraction of the knowledge these guys possess and really take it in, I know it can help motivate you during those moments where you seem to be struggling.
