How To Set Fitness Goals After COVID
We all go though cycles in our lives including seasons, sports, vacations, and illness.
Sometimes, due to various circumstances we may take some time away from the gym and other health habits like eating vegetables.
But then your internal compass start nudging you to get back to working out. And you may even be tempted to set an audacious goal after packing on a few unwanted lb's.
This is common after recovering from a bout of COVID-19. As this virus has become part of the cycle of our lives, it long-term affects (aka "Long COVID"), we may need to adjust our approach to working out and fitness in general.
If you've had COVID recently, you may be tempted to set an audacious goal to change everything in your life and "beat" yourself back into shape.
But here's the thing, don't.
Now you may be thinking, "uhhhh, what kind of fitness coach are you telling me not to set big goals?"
Well, I'm the kind that wants you to succeed long-term, not lose 20 pounds real fast then put it right back on.
When you start to feel better, you may think you are returning to normal, but the truth is you will may to make more gradual adjustments than you had anticipated.
And this could take the wind out of your sails.
And one thing you don't want to do is set HUGE goals while trying to get back on your feet.
So let me make a couple of suggestions.
I know you're excited to get back into the gym, but instead of shooting to lose 20 pounds at a time try setting a goal of making it to 3 workouts every week for a month.
Or adding a protein to one meal per day.
Or eating slowly - making one meal a day last at least 15 minutes.
Goals like these may seem super easy or logical and you'd be right, they are.
And that's a good thing.
We want easy, because easy is what builds momentum.
Think about it like this.
When you are learning how to scuba dive, you don't just take a boat a mile off the coast, jump in, and hope for the best.
You start slow. In the pool, then gradually work to deeper and deeper depths until what was difficult becomes easy and what was easy feels like nothing.
That's the feeling we are going for here.
And it'll be tough because every ounce of your being will be excited and want to get after it full force.
But I promise you, if you play the long game and get after it in a slow and strategic manner, you will go much farther than if you went 150% all out from the start.
With that in mind,
What are 2 bite-sized goals you can set for yourself for next month?
